Title: Power Consumption of Base Station as per Traffic Generated

Abstract:

Base Station is the main contributor of energy consumption in cellular mobile communication.  The traffic of base station varies over time and space. Therefore, it is important to quantify the influence of traffic generated on the power consumption. This paper investigates changes in the power consumption of base stations according to their respective traffic and develops a model for the power consumption as per traffic generated aiming to highlight the power consumption model development and address the power saving capabilities. The primary data in terms of power consumption and traffic load have been measured hourly on fully loaded 10 base stations for 10 days. The regression analysis shows the existence of a direct relationship between power consumption and traffic generated. A linear equation is developed is Y = 1.713×X + 1.274, where Y is power consumption and X is traffic generated, which shows that the power consumption of base stations linearly depends on the traffic generated. One noticeable point is that when the traffic is high, the developed linear equation indicates that the data fits well in the model but on the other hand, when the traffic is low, the developed linear equation explains less variability of the response around its mean. This paper also gives an overview of energy efficiency improvement possibility in base station.

    which are latest research activities focused on improving the energy efficiency of cellular access networks. Additionally, we perform an investigation regarding the impact of the traffic intensity on the power consumption of BSs. what is direct correlation which exists between the BS electric current draw and the traffic load pattern.This correlation is reflected in the active power consumption in each phase of the three-phase system used for electric supply of the complete macro BS site. Therefore, active site AC power consumption also varies according to changes in the traffic intensity.

    In terms of economic and environmental impact, the data corresponding to ca. 300-million-euro yearly energy costs and ca. 1.2 Mton of CO2 eq emitted in the atmosphere. About 3 % of 600 TWh of the worldwide electrical energy is consumed by ICT sector will grow up to 1,700 TWh by 2030. The total global carbon footprint of ICT industries in the order of 860 million tons of CO2 which is about 2 % of the global emissions (Technical Expert for Renewable Energy Application).

    Thank you for your comments. Base Station are used in cellular communication and is responsible for the call handling of subscriber in air interface. There is air interface between base station and subscriber. To manage the interface between the base stations is really a good research also called RF optimization
